How to Choose a Plastic Surgery Clinic in Mallorca: Medical Guide 2026

The decision to undergo plastic or cosmetic surgery is one of the most significant decisions a person can make regarding their health and appearance. In Mallorca, the number of clinics and professionals has grown significantly in recent years, which means patients need to have clear criteria for identifying a plastic surgery clinic in Mallorca that meets the necessary medical and ethical standards. This guide analyzes the key factors to consider before making any decision.

1. Verification of the surgeon’s credentials and specialty

The first evaluation criterion is the professional qualifications of the surgeon who will perform the procedure. In Spain, the specialty recognized by the Ministry of Health is Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery, which is obtained through the MIR system. Any surgeon performing procedures in this field must be certified in this specialty or, in the case of professionals trained abroad, have the corresponding accreditation from the Ministry of Education.

Beyond basic specialty training, postgraduate training at leading European universities—such as hospitals affiliated with the Université Libre de Bruxelles or the British National Health Service—adds an additional dimension of technical rigor. Accreditation as a Fellow of the Collegium Chirurgicum Plasticum (FCCP), issued by the Belgian College of Plastic Surgeons, or as an MRCS England by the Royal College of Surgeons, are indicators of specialized training in highly demanding clinical settings.

The surgeon’s license number must be verifiable with the General Council of Medical Associations of Spain (Balearic Islands Medical Association) and, if applicable, in the records of the country where the surgeon received their training.

2. Facility Accreditation and Operating Room Conditions

The safety of any surgical procedure depends largely on the conditions of the environment in which it is performed. A reputable plastic surgery clinic in Spain must have operating rooms that are certified in accordance with current regulations, certified anesthesia equipment, an emergency response protocol, and support staff with specialized training.

Surgical procedures at accredited private hospitals—such as Quirónsalud Palmaplanas Hospital or Quirónsalud Son Verí Hospital in Palma de Mallorca—offer an additional layer of institutional safety: these facilities subject their facilities and protocols to periodic audits and have supervised postoperative care units.

A facility that performs surgery exclusively at its own clinic without external hospital accreditation may pose an additional risk in the event of complications that require urgent hospital care. This issue should be carefully evaluated before making any decision.

3. Transparency in clinical information and the assessment process

One quality criterion that is often underestimated is the quality of the preoperative evaluation process. A reputable medical clinic would devote sufficient time to the initial consultation, during which the specialist assesses the indication, the patient’s overall health, individual risks, the patient’s expectations, and the feasibility of the expected outcome.

“A medical consultation is not just a step prior to surgery: it is the moment when the specialist determines whether the procedure is the right solution for that specific patient, given their anatomy and circumstances. A thorough, personalized evaluation is, in and of itself, part of the outcome.” — Dr. García Ceballos FCCP, director and founder of Mallorca Medical Group.

The information provided to the patient during the consultation must include a clear description of the surgical technique, the risks and possible complications, the recovery process, and realistic expectations regarding the outcome. The informed consent form must be signed before any procedure, and the patient must have fully understood its contents.

4. Documented experience and scientific publications

The clinical track record of the surgeon and the facility is an indicator of professional competence. Factors such as years of surgical practice, participation in scientific conferences, authorship of publications in indexed medical journals, and the development of proprietary techniques reflect a sustained commitment to staying current in clinical practice and to technical excellence.

In the field of cosmetic surgery in Mallorca, experience with complex procedures—such as secondary rhinoplasty, reconstructive surgery, deep facial rejuvenation techniques, and revision breast surgery—is a key indicator of the team’s ability to successfully manage more challenging cases.

The existence of articles published in journals such as the *European Journal of Plastic Surgery* or *Cirugía Plástica Ibero-Latinoamericana* allows patients to assess the professional’s scientific contribution to medical knowledge in their specialty.

5. Criteria Related to Breast, Facial, and Body Surgery in Mallorca

When the procedure in question is specific—such as breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, a facelift, or liposuction—it is advisable to evaluate the surgeon’s specific experience with that procedure. Plastic surgery encompasses a wide range of techniques: a specialist may have more experience in breast surgery than in facial surgery, or vice versa.

Some specific considerations by procedure:

Breast surgery (breast augmentation, mastopexy, breast reduction): evaluate expertise in implant selection, placement planes, scar management, and lift techniques.

Facial surgery (rhinoplasty, facelift, blepharoplasty): evaluate the aesthetic and functional approach, individualized planning, and detailed anatomical knowledge of facial structures.

Body Contouring Surgery (Liposuction, Tummy Tuck, Body Contouring): Consider the surgeon’s experience in managing residual skin laxity, contouring techniques, and postoperative recovery protocols.

Non-surgical aesthetic medicine (Cosmetic Medicine Treatments in Mallorca): Make sure that injectable treatments are performed by licensed physicians, not by personnel without medical training.

6. Warning Signs to Look For

There are certain signs that an informed patient should look for before deciding where to have surgery. Some of the most important ones are:

Promises of guaranteed results or claims of a complete absence of complications, which are not clinically feasible in any surgical procedure.

No medical evaluation prior to signing the estimate.

Commercial pressure to make decisions during the initial consultation without time to reflect.

Surgeons without a recognized specialty or with unverifiable credentials.

Surgeries performed at facilities without hospital accreditation or available emergency equipment.

Communication focused exclusively on price, without any clinical context.

When it comes to the cost of plastic surgery in Mallorca, patients should understand that the price of a surgical procedure reflects multiple factors: the surgeon’s qualifications and experience, the quality of the materials used (implants, sutures, equipment), the conditions of the operating room, and the included postoperative follow-up care. A price that deviates significantly from the market average may indicate compromises in one or more of these areas.

Conclusion

Choosing a plastic surgery clinic in Mallorca with medical guarantees requires systematically evaluating the surgeon’s credentials, the facility’s accreditation, the quality of the evaluation process, and the team’s documented clinical track record. None of these factors alone is sufficient; it is the combination of all of them that allows the patient to make an informed decision, with realistic expectations and within an appropriate safety framework.

Mallorca Medical Group, led by Dr. García Ceballos, FCCP—with 25 years of clinical experience, training at the Université Libre de Bruxelles under Professor P. Wylock and credentials in the United Kingdom and Belgium—performs its surgical procedures at Quirónsalud Palmaplanas Hospital and Quirónsalud Son Verí Hospital in Palma de Mallorca.

Frequently Asked Questions About Choosing a Plastic Surgery Clinic in Mallorca

What qualifications must a plastic surgeon have in Spain?

In Spain, plastic surgeons must hold the MIR specialty in Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery, recognized by the Ministry of Health. In addition, they may hold additional international certifications, such as the MRCS I (England) or the Belgian FCCP, which reflect training at leading European centers. Their membership number must be verifiable with the General Council of Medical Associations.

What sets an accredited plastic surgery clinic in Mallorca apart?

An accredited clinic has approved operating rooms, certified anesthesia equipment, audited surgical safety protocols, and surgeons with recognized specialties. In Mallorca, facilities such as Hospital Quirónsalud Palmaplanas hold these accreditations. Surgical activity at leading hospitals is an additional indicator of clinical rigor.

How many consultations are typically held before plastic surgery?

The standard preoperative process includes an initial medical evaluation to assess the indication, the patient’s overall health, the patient’s expectations, and individual risks. More than one consultation may be required, in addition to preoperative diagnostic tests and an anesthesiological evaluation. This process is essential for patient safety and to achieve a result that is appropriate for the patient’s anatomy.

The day before: do not eat or drink anything after midnight; wash with antiseptic soap; wear comfortable clothing. After the operation: wear a postoperative bra for 24–48 hours, rest in a semi-seated position, and have someone with you for the first 72 hours. These details make the difference between a smooth recovery and one with complications.

Why is preparation so important?

The success of breast surgery—whether augmentation, mastopexy, reduction, or reconstruction—is not determined solely in the operating room. A significant part of the outcome depends on the patient’s condition prior to surgery: overall health, quality of wound healing, absence of medications that increase bleeding, abstinence from tobacco, and stable weight. And the immediate recovery—the first 72 hours—determines how the patient feels in the weeks that follow.

This article outlines what we at Mallorca Medical Group discuss with each patient before any breast surgery. It is not a substitute for a personal consultation with the surgeon—which is where the individual plan is established—but it helps ensure that all questions are answered and the way forward is clear.

Four weeks earlier: what can't be improvised

Tobacco Suspension

It is the factor that has the greatest impact on the outcome and, yet, the one that is most underestimated. Tobacco use compromises blood flow to the skin and tissues, impedes healing, increases the risk of necrosis of the areola-nipple complex in mastopexy and breast reduction surgeries, and significantly increases the risk of scarring complications. At Mallorca Medical Group, smoking must be stopped at least 4 weeks before surgery and avoided for 4 weeks afterward. Vaping and e-cigarettes are also prohibited: nicotine—not smoke—is the critical factor.

Medication Review

Some medications and supplements increase the risk of surgical bleeding. The patient should bring a complete list of her regular medications to the appointment. The surgeon and anesthesiologist will decide which ones to discontinue and how far in advance. As a general guideline:

Aspirin and NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen): Discontinue use 7–10 days beforehand, as directed by your doctor

Anticoagulants (Sintrom, apixaban, dabigatran): Never stop taking them on your own; always have your doctor adjust the dosage.

Supplements: Vitamin E, omega-3, ginkgo, ginseng, high-dose garlic, and cranberry can increase bleeding. Stop taking them 2 weeks beforehand.

Hormonal contraceptives: may be continued, with thromboembolism prophylaxis if indicated

Preoperative Tests

For standard breast surgery, the protocol typically includes:

Study

What is it for?

Complete blood count

Complete blood count, coagulation panel, renal and liver function tests, basic serology tests

ECG

Basic Cardiological Evaluation Before General Anesthesia

Chest X-ray

When age or medical history warrants it

Breast ultrasound or mammogram

Recommended to assess the condition of breast tissue before any surgery. Required for women 40 and older or those with a family history

Anesthesia Consultation

The anesthesiologist reviews all of the above and develops the anesthesia plan

A week earlier

This week is for clearing up any remaining questions and organizing the logistics for the next steps. Here are some practical details:

Arrange for someone to assist you during the first 48–72 hours after discharge: someone who can help you with basic tasks (getting dressed, personal hygiene, eating, getting up)

Purchase the postoperative medications prescribed by your surgeon so you will have them at home when you return from the hospital (pain medication, antibiotics if prescribed).

Get your home ready: sleep in a semi-upright position for the first few nights (extra pillows), set up a resting area with everything within reach, and wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing

If you work, arrange for sick leave: the type of surgery determines the duration (breast augmentation: 7–10 days for sedentary work; breast reduction and mastopexy: 10–14 days; reconstruction: longer)

Arrange for transportation from the hospital: never drive after general anesthesia

The day before and the day of the surgery

Hygiene and Fasting

The day before, take a full shower using an antiseptic soap that will be prescribed to you (chlorhexidine or similar), paying special attention to the chest area. Do not apply creams, perfumes, or deodorants on the morning of the surgery. Fast completely starting at midnight the night before: do not eat or drink anything (not even water) unless otherwise instructed.

What to Bring to the Hospital

For standard breast surgery requiring an overnight stay, please bring:

Documents: National ID card, private health insurance card (if applicable), complete preoperative reports

Comfortable, open-front clothing for the trip home: a button-down shirt, loose-fitting pants, and slip-on shoes

Postoperative bra (your surgeon will have recommended a specific style)

Basic personal items: toothbrush and toothpaste, hair ties, cell phone with charger

NO jewelry, NO contact lenses (glasses if you wear them), NO nail polish

The First 72 Hours: What to Expect

At the hospital (first 24 hours)

After the surgery, you will be taken to your room wearing a postoperative bra or compression bandage. The predominant sensation during the first few hours is a feeling of pressure in the chest, rather than sharp pain. Intravenous pain medication is administered, and, depending on your progress, oral medication may also be prescribed. You can usually get up to use the restroom with assistance during the first few hours; it is advisable to get moving early to prevent blood clots. A gradual transition to a liquid and soft diet is recommended if you do not experience nausea.

Check-in and Return Home

Patients are typically discharged the next day (24 hours) after breast augmentation with implants, and 24–48 hours after a mastopexy, reduction, or reconstruction. You’ll go home wearing your postoperative bra, with written care instructions, medication, and directions on when to return for a follow-up visit. It’s best to go straight home, without making any stops, and to rest.

The First 72 Hours at Home

Position: Sleep in a semi-seated position (using pillows or a wedge); do not sleep on your stomach or on your side during the first few nights

Hygiene: Showering is usually permitted on the 2nd or 3rd day, as directed, taking care around the scars. DO NOT bathe in a tub or swim in a pool for the first 3 weeks

Physical Activity: Walk around the house regularly; don't stay still. DO NOT lift your arms above your head or carry heavy objects

Medication: Take pain relievers as prescribed; don't wait until you feel pain; take antibiotics until the full course is completed

Brace: 24 hours a day for 4 weeks, then only during the day for 2 more weeks

Warning signs: pain that does not subside with pain medication, a fever higher than 38 °C, sudden asymmetrical swelling, bleeding through the dressing, or redness of the scar. Contact the clinic immediately.

When will you be able to return to normal life?

The general guidelines for recovery times after breast augmentation with implants—the fastest cases—are as follows: sedentary work, 7–10 days; driving, 10–14 days (depending on how comfortable you feel); gentle gym workouts and light cardio, 4 weeks; and chest exercises, 6–8 weeks. For breast lifts, reductions, and reconstructions, recovery times are extended by an additional 2–4 weeks. Your surgeon will provide you with a personalized recovery schedule.

Liposuction Safety: A Complete Guide for the Patient

Liposuction is one of the most demanded cosmetic surgery procedures in Mallorca and the rest of Spain. Its main objective is to eliminate accumulations of localized fat that do not respond to diet or exercise, reshaping the body contour in a proportional and natural way. However, as with any surgical intervention, its safe practice depends on rigorous medical planning, a certified healthcare environment and the correct selection of the patient.

This guide, elaborated by Mallorca Medical Group, addresses the essential aspects that every patient should know before undergoing liposuction: clinical indications, contraindications, available techniques, risk factors, surgical protocol and recovery guidelines.

“Safety in liposuction is not a result of chance, but of planning. A thorough preoperative evaluation -including complete blood work, electrocardiogram and assessment of the patient’s general condition- is the first step to ensure that the procedure is performed under the right conditions for each specific case.”

– Dr. García Ceballos FCCP, Medical Director of Mallorca Medical Group

Clinical indications: when is liposuction justified?

Liposuction is indicated for patients with accumulations of localized fat in areas such as abdomen, flanks, lumbar region, thighs, knees, arms, double chin or back, provided that such deposits are resistant to conservative methods (balanced diet and regular exercise) and the general health of the patient allows it.

It is not a weight loss technique. The candidate patient must be at a weight close to ideal or with a body mass index (BMI) lower than 30, and have skin with sufficient elasticity to retract adequately once the fat has been removed. When skin laxity is important, the plastic surgeon may consider combining liposuction with skin resection techniques (abdominoplasty, brachioplasty or cruroplasty), depending on the affected area.

Within Plastic Surgery in Mallorca, individualized assessment allows us to determine if conventional liposuction is sufficient or if the case requires a combined approach to obtain natural and proportionate results.

Absolute and relative contraindications

Rigorous patient selection is crucial to minimize risks. Absolute contraindications include:

Uncontrolled heart disease or severe arrhythmias

Uncorrected coagulation disorders

Severe hepatic or renal insufficiency

Active infections in the area to be treated

Decompensated systemic diseases (poorly controlled type 1 diabetes, autoimmune diseases in flare-up)

Pregnancy

Relative contraindications -which do not necessarily preclude surgery, but require a more detailed preoperative study- include significant obesity(BMI > 35), active smoking, anticoagulant treatment, history of venous thromboembolism and extensive previous scarring in the area to be operated on.

In all cases, the preoperative medical evaluation performed at trusted plastic surgery clinics in Spain should include a complete blood test, coagulation study, electrocardiogram and consultation with the anesthesiologist.

Available liposuction techniques and their safety profile

There are several technical modalities of liposuction, each with specific indications and proven safety profiles:

Tumescent liposuction: standard reference technique. Previous infiltration of anesthetic and vasoconstrictor solution that reduces bleeding and facilitates fat removal. It is the modality with the most accumulated evidence and the most used in routine clinical practice.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound): emulsifies the fat by means of ultrasonic energy before aspirating it, which facilitates the extraction in fibrous areas and is useful in high definition procedures or advanced body liposculpture.

Laser-assisted liposuction: combines suction with laser energy, which may induce some additional skin retraction. Requires careful thermal control to avoid dermal burns.

Liposuction with ultrafine cannulas: indicated in precision areas (jowls, knees, ankles) where fine contour control is required.

The selection of the appropriate technique is based on the anatomical characteristics of the patient, the volume of fat to be removed and the experience of the plastic surgeon with each modality. There is no universally superior technique; suitability depends on each case.

Surgical protocol and certified care environment

The safety of liposuction is closely linked to the environment in which it is performed. A rigorous surgical protocol includes:

Preoperative consultation with complete medical study and detailed informed consent.

Standardized medical photography for planning and documentation

Preoperative body marking in bipedal position

General anesthesia or deep sedation administered by a licensed anesthesiologist

Intervention in a certified operating room with all safety protocols in place.

Control of the infiltration and aspiration volume to avoid hemodynamic imbalances.

Structured postoperative follow-up with scheduled revisions

In Mallorca Medical Group, interventions are performed at Hospital Quirónsalud Palmaplanas and Hospital Quirónsalud Son Verí, both with accredited operating rooms and anesthesiology teams specialized in cosmetic surgery.

Risk factors and prevention of complications

Complications of liposuction are classified as immediate (intraoperative or within the first 24 hours), early (first week) and late (after the second week). Among the most relevant:

Seroma: accumulation of serous fluid under the skin. Relatively frequent and treatable with ambulatory drainage in consultation.

Hematoma: accumulation of blood, more likely in patients with coagulation disorders or under antiplatelet therapy.

Contour irregularities: depressed or asymmetric areas due to heterogeneous aspiration. They are prevented by meticulous technique and precise preoperative marking.

Infection: infrequent when antisepsis and antibiotic prophylaxis protocols are applied.

Venous thromboembolism: rare, but pharmacological prophylaxis and early mobilization are essential in patients at risk.

The likelihood of serious complications is significantly reduced when the procedure is performed by one of the Best Plastic Surgeons in Spain with specific training in body surgery, in a hospital setting or accredited clinic, with an anesthesiologist present during the entire procedure.

Recovery: realistic expectations and postoperative care

Recovery after liposuction follows a relatively predictable timeline, although with individual variability depending on the volume treated and the areas operated on:

First 48-72 hours: swelling, bruising and moderate discomfort. Relative rest. Start of manual lymphatic drainage if indicated by the surgeon.

First week: the patient can resume sedentary activity. The compression garment must be worn continuously.

Second and third week: progressive reduction of edema. Light physical activity (walking). Restriction of impact sports.

Fourth to sixth week: return to moderate exercise. Night girdle in many cases.

Three to four months: the definitive result begins to be clearly seen when the residual edema has completely resolved.

Strict compliance with postoperative indications – girdle, hydration, lymphatic drainage, avoidance of sun exposure in treated areas – is essential to obtain esthetic improvement according to the characteristics of each case and to minimize the risk of late complications.

Conclusion

Liposuction is a body contouring procedure with a solid safety profile when performed under the right conditions: proper patient selection, accredited plastic surgeon, certified operating room, supervised anesthesia and structured postoperative follow-up.

The cost of plastic surgery in Mallorca for this type of intervention varies according to the number of areas to be treated, the technique used and the hospital center. In no case should it be the only decision criterion: the patient’s safety and the experience of the medical team are the primary factors.

Frequently asked questions about liposuction safety

What factors determine whether a patient is a safe candidate for liposuction?

Candidacy for liposuction is determined by an individualized medical evaluation that includes analysis of the patient’s general health, skin quality, fat distribution and expectations. In general terms, the ideal candidate presents stable weight, skin with good elasticity and localized fat accumulation resistant to diet and exercise. Absolute contraindications include uncontrolled heart disease, coagulation disorders and severe systemic diseases. A personalized evaluation by the plastic surgeon allows the risk profile of each case to be accurately determined.

What are the most frequent complications after liposuction and how are they prevented?

The most common complications include seroma, hematoma, contour irregularities and superficial infection. The rate of serious complications is low when the procedure is performed in a certified operating room, with a certified anesthesiologist and by a plastic surgeon with specific training. Strict postoperative follow-up -scheduled revisions, correct use of the compression garment and compliance with medical indications- is decisive in the prevention of late complications.

What is the difference between tumescent liposuction, VASER and laser liposuction in terms of safety?

All three modalities are proven techniques with acceptable safety profiles when applied correctly. Tumescent liposuction is the most widespread technique with the most accumulated evidence. VASER facilitates fat emulsification and can be useful in high-definition liposuction or fibrous areas. Laser-assisted liposuction produces some additional skin retraction, although with greater thermal risk if not adequately controlled. The choice of technique should be based on the patient’s anatomic characteristics and the surgeon’s experience with each modality.

How long is the recovery time after liposuction and what restrictions are involved?

Recovery varies according to the volume of fat aspirated and the areas treated. Generally speaking, the patient can resume sedentary activity after the third or fourth day. Moderate physical exercise is usually allowed after four or five weeks, and the return to intense sporting activity, between six and eight weeks. The compression garment is usually maintained for four to six weeks. The definitive results are seen after the third or fourth month, when the residual edema has completely resolved.

Natural breasts are a trend in pornography.

In recent years, the porn industry has experienced a noticeable shift in the preferences of both the public and producers, leaning more and more towards actresses with natural breasts instead of breast prostheses. This change is no coincidence, but the result of a confluence of factors that have been shaping the perception and expectations of adult content.

One of the key factors in this change is the public’s demand for a more realistic and diverse representation of female bodies. In an era where authenticity is valued in all aspects of life, consumers of adult content are no exception. They seek a genuine connection with the actresses, which translates into an appreciation for natural looks. This preference for the real and unmodified is part of a broader cultural movement that celebrates bodily diversity and rejects the artificially inflated beauty standards that have dominated for decades.

In addition, the preference for natural breasts also responds to a change in the perception of sensuality and beauty. Instead of following a single, standardized model of beauty, more and more people value the uniqueness and diversity of bodies. This has led many actresses to opt to keep their bodies unmodified, aligning themselves with these new market expectations. The decision to avoid breast prostheses can be seen not only as an alignment with public preferences, but also as a measure to preserve long-term health by avoiding potential medical complications associated with implants.

The trend toward naturalness and diversity in the porn industry also reflects a shift in the cultural narrative in general. We live in a time where acceptance and inclusion are celebrated, where social movements advocate for fair and authentic representation of all body types. This shift not only affects the adult entertainment industry, but extends to fashion, advertising and media in general.

Importantly, this development has also given rise to debates and discussions within the industry. Some practitioners and critics argue that the preference for naturalness could limit the choices of actresses who prefer or need body modifications for various reasons. However, most agree that diversity of options and freedom of choice are fundamental to any inclusive and progressive industry.

In short, the preference for actresses with natural breasts in the porn industry is a reflection of a broader shift towards authenticity, diversity and health. This change not only meets the demands of an increasingly aware and discerning public, but also promotes a more honest and varied representation of female bodies. Ultimately, this evolution could be seen as a positive step towards an industry that is more inclusive and respectful of human diversity.
