But how did we get here? Let&#8217;s take a look at this incredible evolution.<\/p>\n<p>Historically, beauty and rejuvenation have been the holy grail of aesthetics, as demonstrated by the explorer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upo.es\/lareformaensevilla\/juan-ponce-de-leon-pp-s-xvi-1559\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ponce de Leon<\/a> in the 15th century, who went in search of the mythical fountain of youth. In 1912, the first articles with before and after photographs of facial surgeries appeared. These publications showed us that the fear of aging is not a modern problem: even back then, a woman in her 40s could feel pressured by wrinkles when looking for a job. Unbelievable, but true!<\/p>\n<p>A major milestone for facial surgery came in 1976 with the <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.lww.com\/plasreconsurg\/citation\/1976\/07000\/the_superficial_musculo_aponeurotic_system__smas_.13.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">description of the SMAS<\/a> (Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System of the face). This muscular structure, located just below the skin of the face and neck, not only defines our expression but also supports the facial tissues. Imagine being able to adjust this &#8220;conveyor belt&#8221; of muscle to restore youthfulness to the face!<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%9C%E2%80%A6the_SMAS%E2%80%A6not_only_defines_our_expression_but_also_supports_facial_tissues%E2%80%A6%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>&#8220;&#8230;the SMAS&#8230;not only defines our expression but also supports facial tissues&#8230;&#8221;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>After years of complicated surgeries and long recovery periods, in the late 1990s, science turned to less invasive techniques. In 2005, the <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s00266-005-0047-7?error=cookies_not_supported&amp;code=08abedc3-95b0-45c8-9c95-fbf6609a7cd5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MACS Lift<\/a> or &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mallorcamedicalgroup.com\/procedimientos\/cirugia-plastica\/cirugia-facial\/lifting-facial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Express Lift<\/a>&#8221; was introduced, which revolutionized the field by reducing surgical time to just one hour and allowing it to be performed under local anesthesia, without the need for hospitalization.
