ASIA syndrome (Autoimmune\/Adjuvant Induced Immune Syndrome) continues to be a topic of debate, especially in relation to its possible link to breast implants. A recent article published in <a href=\"https:\/\/ciplaslatin.com\/descargas\/item\/vol-50-n%C2%BA-3-2024-245-356-cirug%C3%ADa-pl%C3%A1stica-ibero-latinoamericana\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cirug\u00eda Pl\u00e1stica Ibero-Latinoamericana <\/a>(Vol. 50, No. 3, 2024) by Dr. Mosquera and colleagues, reviews the scientific evidence on the so-called breast implant-associated disease (BIDS), an entity that some patients relate to systemic symptoms after breast prosthesis placement.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Current_evidence_and_controversies_about_ASIA_syndrome\"><\/span>Current evidence and controversies about ASIA syndrome.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Despite the increase in the number of patients who associate these symptoms with their implants and request their explantation, a direct association between breast implants and the appearance of this disease has not been proven. The article points out that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Some studies show that breast explanation can improve symptoms in certain patients.<\/li>\n<li>However, it is not clear whether this improvement is due exclusively to the removal of the implants or to other factors, such as psychological effects or changes in the immune system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, the current scientific literature faces important limitations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Lack of uniformity in the studies<\/strong>: There is no consensus on the criteria for patient selection or analysis methods, making it difficult to obtain solid conclusions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Need for high-quality evidence:<\/strong> more homogeneous studies that control relevant variables and evaluate both surgical and non-surgical alternatives are required. insufficient long-term follow-up:<\/li>\n<li><strong>Prolonged monitoring of patients<\/strong> is essential to determine the true effectiveness of explantation, beyond the so-called &#8220;honeymoon&#8221; effect, which may explain a transient improvement of symptoms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_role_of_social_networking_and_decision_making\"><\/span>The role of social networking and decision making<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Another highlight is the influence of social networks, which have played a crucial role in the increase in requests for explantation. This phenomenon highlights the importance of <strong>educating patients about current limitations and evidence<\/strong> before making surgical decisions.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Towards_a_comprehensive_treatment\"><\/span>Towards a comprehensive treatment<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Given the uncertain outlook, experts recommend <strong>comprehensive treatment options<\/strong>, including surgical and non-surgical alternatives, and personalized approaches to effectively manage symptoms.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Conclusion\"><\/span>Conclusion<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Although breast implant-associated disease and its relationship with ASIA syndrome are topics under constant study, <strong>conclusive evidence is still lacking<\/strong>.
