The posterior-access neck lift is an alternative in selected cases. It does not replace a face and neck lift when the cheek has also dropped.<\/p>\n\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/mallorcamedicalgroup.com\/en\/procedures\/plastic-surgery\/facial-surgery\/\">facial surgery<\/a>, Mallorca Medical Group assesses the neck as a single anatomical unit: skin, fat, platysma muscle, and jaw position. The skin of the neck loses elasticity. Sometimes there is excess fat under the chin that does not respond to body weight. The visible result is a less defined cervical angle, not a generic &#8220;aged neck.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n<p>The posterior access aims to treat that plane in patients whose main problem is in the neck while the jawline remains reasonably acceptable. The incision is designed to stay hidden behind the hairline, instead of a conventional anterolateral approach. That does not mean there is no scar. It means that, in the right candidate, it stays out of frontal view.<\/p>\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"When_it_makes_sense_and_when_it_doesnt\"><\/span>When it makes sense and when it doesn&#8217;t<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>It makes sense when:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Platysmal bands are the main reason for consultation.<\/li>\n<li>The skin still has reasonable elasticity, or the excess skin is limited and localized.<\/li>\n<li>The cheek and nasolabial fold do not call for a facelift at the same time.<\/li>\n<li>The patient accepts that aging continues and that the neck is not &#8220;fixed&#8221; in place.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>It is not the right option if the cheek has clearly dropped, if there is significant excess skin that can only be redistributed with a more extensive approach, or if the person expects to completely erase fine skin wrinkles. In those cases, a <a href=\"https:\/\/mallorcamedicalgroup.com\/en\/blog\/plastic-surgery-en\/lifting-combinado-cara-cuello-mallorca-guia-completa\/\">combined face and neck lift<\/a> may be more coherent than operating on the neck alone and leaving the cheek sagging.<\/p>\n\n<p>Nor does it replace chin liposuction when the problem is mainly fat, with firm skin and no muscle banding. Usual social activity resumes gradually, not the next day. Exercise and sun exposure are guided in consultation. The result is judged over months, as the tissue settles, not in the first look in the mirror.<\/p>\n\n<p>Risks exist: hematoma, temporary changes in sensitivity, asymmetry, healing problems, and, infrequently, injury to a nerve branch. No neck procedure is &#8220;risk-free&#8221; or comes with a guaranteed result.
