facial plastic surgery procedure aimed at improving the shape, size and\/or function of the nose. It can be performed for aesthetic, functional or combined purposes. <\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_to_expect_after_surgery\"><\/span>What to expect after surgery<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Swelling of the nose and eyelids, with possible periocular hematoma.<\/li>\n<li>Nasal congestion and sensation of pressure.<\/li>\n<li>Slight nasal bleeding in the first 24-48 hours.<\/li>\n<li>Pain is very unlikely.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Home_care\"><\/span>Home care<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep splint and dressings without wetting or removal for 10 days.<\/li>\n<li>Sleep on your back with your head elevated (two pillows).<\/li>\n<li>Apply cold to the periorbital area with a clean cloth between the cold and the skin for the first two days.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Drug_treatment\"><\/span>Drug treatment<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In general (unless specifically indicated by a physician), the postoperative period may include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Apply plenty of <strong>sterile petroleum jelly<\/strong> to the threshold of the nostrils with a swab 3 times a day.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs <\/strong>in decreasing doses during the first week.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Combined analgesia <\/strong>if necessary.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Prophylactic antibiotic<\/strong> to reduce the risk of infection.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gastric protection.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Antithrombotic prophylaxis<\/strong> indicated after individual evaluation by <a href=\"https:\/\/mallorcamedicalgroup.com\/en\/blog\/plastic-surgery-en\/profilaxis-antitrombotica\/\">Caprini Scale<\/a>, if appropriate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>The schedule, duration and type of medication are determined on an individual basis by the medical team.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_to_avoid\"><\/span>What to avoid<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Nose blowing and nasal efforts.<\/li>\n<li>Intense exercise for 3-4 weeks.<\/li>\n<li>Direct sun exposure and intense heat.<\/li>\n<li>Support glasses on the nasal dorsum until medical authorization.<\/li>\n<li>Tobacco and alcohol in the initial phase of recovery (minimum 20 days).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Approximate_recovery_schedule\"><\/span>Approximate recovery schedule<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Day 1-7:<\/strong> more visible swelling and bruising.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Around 10 days:<\/strong> removal of splint and\/or stitches if necessary.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Month 1:<\/strong> more natural appearance and marked decrease in edema.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Months 6-18:<\/strong> definitive result. It depends on the skin type of each patient.
