Cruroplasty in Mallorca
Thigh lift surgery following significant weight loss or skin aging. Approaches: inguinal (hidden scar) or vertical (greater reduction). Performed by Dr. García Ceballos at Quirónsalud Palmaplanas.
Restoring the Thigh Contour After Weight Loss
Cruroplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the inner thigh. After significant weight loss, the skin on the thighs does not always retract on its own, leaving a loose skin flap that causes functional discomfort (friction when walking, skin irritation, difficulty wearing tight-fitting clothing) as well as cosmetic concerns.
Along with brachioplasty and abdominoplasty, cruroplasty is part of the standard package of post-weight-loss surgeries (post-bariatric or post-GLP-1). Each patient requires an individualized treatment plan based on the extent of weight loss and the distribution of excess skin.
Ideal Candidates
Patients (mostly women) with significant sagging of the inner thigh, whose weight has been stable for at least 6–12 months, who are in good nutritional status, and who do not smoke. Functional discomfort (friction, irritation, dermatitis) is an additional indication beyond aesthetic concerns.
Treatment Options Based on the Degree of Sagging
| Type | Indication | Scar |
|---|---|---|
| Liposuction alone | Excess fat only, elastic skin | Minimal (3 mm) |
| Inguinal Cruroplasty | Mild to moderate sagging, upper third | Horizontal incision in the inguinal crease (hidden) |
| Vertical Cruroplasty | Significant sagging along the thigh | Vertical groin-to-knee (visible) |
| Combined Cruroplasty (T) | Extreme post-bariatric skin laxity | Inguinal + vertical T-shaped |
A technique for every patient
Isolated Thigh Liposuction
When there is only excess fat and the skin is elastic (young people who are moderately overweight). No visible scarring. NOT recommended if there is sagging skin.
Inguinal cruroplasty
Horizontal resection with a scar hidden in the natural inguinal crease. Effectively treats sagging in the upper third of the thigh. The scar is virtually invisible once healed.
Vertical Cruroplasty
Vertical incision from the groin to near the knee. This allows for greater skin removal along the entire thigh. The scar is more visible, but the results are superior in cases of significant sagging.
Combined Cruroplasty (T)
Combines an inguinal and vertical incision to form a “T.” Recommended for extreme post-bariatric skin laxity. It results in the longest scar but is the only procedure that yields satisfactory results in very advanced cases.
The choice between an inguinal and a vertical incision is the main trade-off. The inguinal incision hides the scar but limits the extent of correction. The vertical incision allows for optimal results in cases of significant sagging but leaves a visible scar. During your consultation, we’ll assess the degree of sagging to determine which approach offers the best balance for your specific case.
