The lips are muscle-membranous folds located in the front part of the mouth. There is an upper lip and a lower lip. The presence of the lips is typical of mammals and constitutes an improvement that is probably related to the mode of nutrition and especially to breastfeeding.
The function of the lips is multiple: catching food, sucking liquids, keeping food out of the oral vestibule, vocalization, osculation (kissing) and of course the expression of sensuality.
The sensitivity of the lips is exquisite.
When performing lip augmentation, the anatomy of the lips
Augmentation using hyaluronic acid fillers
It is important that the density of the product be medium or low, since we are dealing with tissues very sensitive and with a low coverage capacity.
Hyaluronic acid is a resorbable product and tends to last approximately three to five months at best.
Injection methods They are varied depending on the objective to be achieved in each patient. In general, it is convenient to highlight the mucocutaneous transition zone to outline the lip and the vermilion to give it volume.
The anesthesia required can usually be local by applying an injection that blocks the trigeminal branches that innervate both lips or by applying topical anesthetic creams. This last method is not very effective when it comes to controlling the discomfort derived from the expansion of the tissue when the product is injected into the deep planes. This type of anesthesia may be somewhat more effective in treating upper lip skin wrinkles in parentheses (barcodes).
Lip augmentation by grafting own fat or lipofilling
Fat can be used on the lips to give volume and contour, as well as to remove wrinkles from the skin of the upper lip.
The advantage of fat when filling the upper lips is that we use the patient’s own biological material with the ability not only to provide volume but also regenerate the tissues.
Types of application of fat for facial filling and lip augmentation: fat can be applied in two ways:
- Micrografting: that is fat made with small particles
- Nanofat: particularly used for definition of the lips filter lines or skin wrinkles (barcode) Whenever we use this technique we combine it with platelet derivatives , LPRF, to facilitate the permanence of fat in the tissues.
You should know that with this technique, even though the fat remains in the tissues once it is established, several sessions may be necessary to obtain the desired volume. These sessions must be separated from each other by three months.
Lip augmentation by inverted dermis graft filling
Requires the use of the patient’s own skin, usually some from a scar, and once processed, insert it into the upper lip and thus provide volume.
The technique is very effective and is carried out under local anesthesia.
The procedure can last around an hour
Surgical procedures facial rejuvenation such as a facelift.
It is important that you know that after the intervention there is some swelling that subsides over the weeks.
Treatments are performed locally and on an outpatient basis.

The volume of your lips can be increased by applying fillers such as hyaluronic acid, your own fat or by applying a skin graft.
What is usually injected into the lips is called hyaluronic acid.
The necessary volume of hyaluronic acid to increase the volume of the lips varies according to the type of lips. Usually with 1ml you can already get a significant volume effect.
The most effective treatment to increase the volume of the lips in terms of immediacy is hyaluronic acid although it lasts a few months. Regarding the permanence of volume of the lips, the most effective is the inverted skin graft.
The effect of hyaluronic acid on the lips usually lasts between 3 and 5 months.
The price of lip augmentation can range between €300 and €1,000 depending on the center and location.
The volume of your lips can be increased by applying fillers such as hyaluronic acid, your own fat.
The results of a hyaluronic acid lip filler are seen immediately, although it may take several days to settle.
After a lip augmentation treatment with hyaluronic acid, you can lead a practically normal life.
