Arm Lift / Brachioplasty
With age, the skin on the arms tends to hang down. This sagging may or may not be accompanied by an increase in fat. Some people are affected by this phenomenon as it bothers them to dress in short-sleeved clothing particularly during the summer months.
Brachioplasty or arm lift is a surgical procedure intended to help remove excess skin and fatty tissue from the armpits and arms. Brachioplasty is not a surgical treatment for people who are overweight. Obese people who want to lose weight should postpone all forms of body contouring surgery until they have reached a stable weight.
The treatment of this problem is surgical. Depending on the redundancy of skin that exists, the treatment can be carried out by means of liposuction, in the event that the skin is sufficiently smooth, or by means of an incision and removal of the skin and fat, in the event that there is an excess of skin and fat. In some cases, liposuction and incision can be combined.
- Anesthesia: the intervention is performed under general anesthesia.
- In the event that liposuction is required, the skin is incised at various points to access the fatty tissue and aspirate it.
- If it is necessary to remove the skin through an incision, it is placed on the inside of the arm to hide it as much as possible. This incision can extend from the armpit to the elbow.
- Hospitalization: 2 nights of hospitalization are required.
To undergo this intervention, the patient needs to be sufficiently motivated since incisions on the inner side of the arm are not always well tolerated by patients.
- After the intervention, a compression bandage is applied.
- The stitches are removed between 10-15 days after the intervention of arm lift.

The scar after a brachioplasty is located on the inner face of both arms. As in all surgical procedures, the evolution of an incision consists of several stages. The definitive closure of a wound usually occurs after two weeks, after which it acquires a redder color. After a few months, this wound will whiten and will be hidden.
The bandage or girdle of the arms is used during the first 10 days.
