Cheek augmentation
The augmentation of cheekbones is a procedure by which an increase in the volume of the cheekbones is produced.
There are different ways of approaching this procedure: surgical and non-surgical
Surgical
Lift of the middle third or third of the cheekbones, cheekbone augmentation by fat grafting or cheekbone augmentation by silicone implant.
Middle third lifting
It is a surgical intervention through which an elevation of the middle third of the face is produced and with it an increase in the volume of the cheekbones.
- After the intervention there is some edema or swelling of the operated area as well as in some cases, bruises that subside over the first 15 days.
- Hospitalization: the procedure can be performed as a major outpatient surgery.
- Postoperative: painless or with very slight discomfort.
- Result: it is immediate, although its definitive settlement occurs over the next 8 months.
Fat grafting
For cheek augmentation: Fat grafting can be used to increase the volume of the cheekbones.
- This technique involves the removal of fat from the patient through liposuction that can be performed under local anesthesia. The fat used for the injection of the cheekbones is of a fine texture (nanofat or nanofat) which is accompanied by the contribution of platelet-rich plasma, PRP.
- This procedure can be repeated until the desired volume is obtained.
- Result: after the injection of the fat the effect is immediate. Once the graft is seated, this volume is permanent.

Implantation of cheekbone prostheses
Cheek augmentation can be done by incorporating cheek implants.
- The intervention consists of making an incision inside the oral mucosa and making suitable pockets for the insertion of compact silicone prostheses.
- Anesthesia: This procedure is performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis.
- Postoperative: after the procedure, fixation is applied by means of taping that will be maintained for 10 days.
It is possible that there may be some bruising and edema or swelling after the intervention that may last about 15 days. - Result: The result of the intervention is immediate and permanent. it is not necessary to remove stitches since they are resorbable
Non-surgical
By injecting fillers, such as hyaluronic acid and/or calcium hydroxyapatite
- Cheek augmentation by fillers It is a fast and safe option.
- It is performed in the office by injecting substances such as hyaluronic acid or calcium hydroxyapatite.
- Dr. García Ceballos uses a double or triple fan technique, which allows a harmonic and homogeneous distribution of the volume of the cheekbones.
- The number of vials needed to perform this increase is variable depending on the needs of each patient. In some cases 1 ml or 1.5 ml of product may be enough. In other cases, two vials of product may be necessary.
Our recommendation is to start treatment with one vial for both cheekbones and after a rest period of 20 days, assess the increase in volume.
