Breast reduction

Considered for women with very large breasts

Breast reduction can be considered by women with very large and sagging breasts who may have a number of medical problems caused by excessive weight, back and neck pain, skin irritation, respiratory problems, or shoulder slits caused by the straps of the bra.

Excessively large breasts can make a woman or adolescent girl feel ashamed of herself. Breast reduction, technically known as reduction mammoplasty, is designed for those women.

This procedure removes fat, glandular tissue and skin from the breasts to reduce them and make them lighter and firmer. It can also reduce the size of the areola (dark skin surrounding the nipple).

Painless and safe

This is not a painful or dangerous procedure. The goal is to provide the woman with smaller, better shaped breasts in proportion to the rest of her body and to alleviate pre-existing complaints. Each case must be treated individually.

In most cases, breast reduction is not performed until a woman’s breasts are fully developed.

However, it can be practiced earlier if large breasts are causing serious physical or psychological discomfort. The best candidates are those women who are mature enough to understand the procedure and have realistic expectations of the results.

There are several techniques for breast reduction. The type of reduction will depend on factors such as the quality of your skin, the degree of ptosis (breast loss), age and your general state of health.

Breast reduction scars are performed according to certain known patterns that can also be read in breast reduction forums as vertical or inverted “T” and tend to fade over time.

The care to be carried out after breast reduction is simple and consists of keeping the bra and washing with water and antiseptic soap from the week after the intervention.
It is recommended that you have a mammogram/ultrasound of your breasts before the intervention, and if there is a family history of breast or ovarian cancer, you are advised to undergo a genetic mapping test.

The results can be seen one month after the intervention, although it takes at least a year to appreciate the final result.

The end result depends on the body and breast characteristics of each patient, as well as the wishes of each patient.

An annual check-up by your surgeon and an ultrasound check 3 years after the performance of your intervention are recommended.

Our breast reduction surgery incorporates treatment for scars during the intervention using growth factors.
We also offer the possibility of applying a laser treatment to the scars of the breast reduction surgery one week and one month after the intervention.

The combination of these two treatments improves the quality and healing time of scars.
