This medical treatment involves injecting a medication through a fine needle into the muscles causing the problem.
Botox · Anti-wrinkle treatments · Migraines · Hyperhidrosis treatment
This technique can be used to treat:
- Expression lines
- Strabismus
- Migraine
- Hyperhidrosis of the palms and armpits
- Blepharospasm
- Dystonia, Spinal Pain, Paraplegia
- Urinary incontinence

The muscle-relaxing effect is temporary and usually lasts between 3 and 5 months. Naturally, the treated muscles regain their function gradually rather than suddenly, which means that the treated wrinkles will gradually become more visible over time.
- The injection can be annoying, although it is usually well tolerated.
- Some small bruises may appear after injections, but they usually go away within a few days.
The initial effect can be seen as early as the third day, although the full effects do not become apparent until the tenth day. This delay between the injection and the full effect is due to the fact that the block on the release of acetylcholine at the motor end plate is not immediate.
There are two phases in the evolution of wrinkle treatment:
- From the time of treatment until 3 months after application: during which time the muscles are completely paralyzed. The treated muscles will not move, and therefore the wrinkles will disappear or fade.
- Starting 3 months after the injection: from this point on, the second phase begins, during which the treated muscles start to move, allowing for greater facial expression and a reduction in wrinkles; this second phase lasts from the third to the fifth or sixth month.
That is why we recommend not undergoing the treatment either before five or six months have passed since the previous treatment, or later, to prevent the treated muscles from regaining tone and the wrinkles from returning to their original state. Therefore, we recommend undergoing the treatment twice a year.
The time of year when the treatment is performed is irrelevant.
- It is advisable to avoid applying pressure to the injection sites to prevent the drug from migrating to muscle areas that we do not want to treat.
- If you are pregnant or have any neurological condition, it is advisable to inform your surgeon to avoid possible adverse effects.
- Side effects are generally rare. Among them, the most common are transient headaches and the drug’s migration to unintended muscle groups.
Proper injection technique and an understanding of each individual patient help prevent these complications.
Personalized treatment
When treating a patient for the first time, we establish a baseline safety profile that we will compare with the results obtained. In this way, once we understand each patient’s specific muscle activity, we can tailor the treatment more effectively during the second session. This helps improve the quality of treatment. That is why we recommend that you stay with your trusted surgeon as much as possible.
Prevention of Facial Wrinkles
Ever since this medication was first used to treat wrinkles, we have known that the etiology—or cause—of expression lines is related to excessive muscle activity. Repeated contraction of the muscles beneath the skin causes the dermis to break down, resulting in the formation of wrinkles.
There is no doubt that if we can treat the skin before this thermal fracture occurs, we will be preventing the appearance of facial wrinkles. That is why anyone who wants to keep their face wrinkle-free should consider starting treatment at an age when wrinkles have not yet appeared.
For this reason, we recommend starting treatment at age 28 as a preventive measure.
Treatment of Facial Wrinkles
Once the wrinkles are established, that is, a fracture of the dermis has occurred, the treatment is aimed at attenuating the wrinkles and, depending on their degree, at eliminating facial expression wrinkles.
These wrinkles are the expression lines between the eyebrows, those of the forehead and those of the crow’s feet.
Combined treatments for the reduction and elimination of expression lines
In some cases, we usually combine this treatment with laser therapy. The combination of these two treatments enhances their effects.
Facial rejuvenation treatments can be combined:
- Mesotherapy using a formula of vitamins and hyaluronic acid
- PRP or plasma, growth factors.
- Laser
- Radiofrequency
- Hifu
Treatments are performed locally and on an outpatient basis.

The effect begins to be noticeable on the fourth day after the injection, although it fully sets in around the 20th day.
The effect lasts 5 or 6 months. It should be noted that the paralysis lasts about 3 months, although the effect of reducing expression lines lasts for another two or three months.
You should tell your doctor if you are taking muscle relaxants or antibiotics, as well as medications that affect blood clotting.
It depends on the application areas.
This treatment is recommended for facial expression lines—that is, the wrinkles between the eyebrows and “crow’s feet,” as well as forehead wrinkles.
As a precaution, this treatment should not be performed if you are pregnant.
As a precaution, this treatment should not be performed if you are breastfeeding.
It is administered via injections into the muscles responsible for expression lines.
You can practically lead a normal life. It is important to be careful not to press on the areas where the injections were given, as this could cause the medication to spread to adjacent muscles and lead to unwanted side effects.
