What is augmentation mammoplasty with implants?

Breast augmentation increases volume, improves shape, and optimizes breast projection using cohesive silicone gel implants. At Mallorca Medical Group, this procedure is performed exclusively by Dr. José Ignacio García Ceballos FCCP, a Fellow of the Belgian College of Plastic Surgeons, with over two decades of specialized experience in breast surgery.

If after pregnancy, lactation or weight loss the breast has lost firmness as well as volume, it can be considered to combine the augmentation with a breast lift (mastopexy). For moderate augmentations without artificial material, there is also the option of breast augmentation with your own fat (lipofilling).

Types of breast implants in Palma de Mallorca

Polyurethane-coated silicone implants

Preferred by 95% of patients. The polyurethane texture promotes tissue adhesion, reducing capsular contracture and displacement. Available in round and anatomical profiles.

Cohesive silicone gel implants (smooth surface)

High cohesiveness with different projection profiles (low, medium, high). Dr. García Ceballos selects the profile based on each patient’s body proportions.

Round or anatomical?

Round implants provide greater volume in the upper pole. Anatomical (teardrop-shaped) implants mimic a natural shape and are ideal for patients with limited breast tissue. 3D simulation allows you to visualize the result of each option before surgery.

Surgical access routes

Inframammary fold

A 3–4 cm incision beneath the fold. The most widely used approach: versatile, naturally concealed, and allows precise placement.

Periareolar

Incision along the edge of the areola. The color transition conceals the scar. Recommended when the areola has a sufficient diameter.

Axillary (transaxillary)

Access through the armpit with no scar on the breast. Requires greater technical precision.

Implant placement plan

  • Subglandular (above the muscle): faster recovery, greater definition.
  • Submuscular (beneath the muscle): greater coverage, more natural results for patients with limited tissue.
  • Subfascial (beneath the pectoral fascia): intermediate position with combined advantages.

Preoperative 3D simulation

Pre-operative 3D simulation for breast augmentation with implants at Mallorca Medical Group

At Mallorca Medical Group, every patient has access to an individualized 3D simulation before surgery. The patient and Dr. García Ceballos try out different volumes, profiles, and placements until reaching the most harmonious result for her body proportions. This reduces uncertainty and improves postoperative satisfaction.

Risks and possible complications

Transparent information: as any surgical procedure, augmentation mammoplasty carries risks that Dr. Garcia Ceballos explains in detail in consultation. Although the overall rate of complications is low, it is important to know them before deciding.

  • Capsular contracture: formation of fibrous tissue around the implant. Less common with polyurethane-coated implants.
  • Hematoma or seroma: accumulation of blood or fluid after surgery. Usually resolved through drainage.
  • Infection: rare with strict aseptic protocols. Prevented with perioperative antibiotic treatment.
  • Changes in sensitivity in the nipple or breast skin, usually temporary.
  • Mild asymmetry: breasts are never completely symmetrical, either before or after surgery.
  • Implant rupture (uncommon with modern CE-certified implants).
  • Need for revision surgery in a small percentage of cases over the long term.

Dr. García Ceballos discusses all these points individually and provides detailed informed consent. This is part of the ethical commitment of Mallorca Medical Group.

Frequently asked questions about breast augmentation in Mallorca

What type of implants are used?

Mainly cohesive silicone gel implants with a polyurethane coating, chosen by 95% of patients for their lower rate of capsular contracture. Smooth-surface implants in round or anatomical profiles are also available.

How long is the recovery period?

Daily activities within 5–7 days. Sedentary work in the 1st week. High-impact sports after 6–8 weeks. Final results visible after 3–6 months.

Can you fly after surgery?

Short flights are possible from day 4–5 onward. For long-haul flights, wait at least two weeks. Dr. García Ceballos assesses each case individually.

How much does breast augmentation cost?

From €97.64/month (standard silicone) or €116.28/month (polyurethane). Includes all fees and hospitalization. Full quote provided at the initial consultation (€40).

Are silicone implants safe?

Yes. They are CE-certified and backed by long-term clinical studies. Dr. García Ceballos works exclusively with accredited manufacturers.

Do implants need to be replaced periodically?

Modern implants do not have a predefined lifespan that requires systematic replacement. Periodic check-ups are recommended. Replacement is only considered in the event of a complication or a desire to change the result.

Does the surgery affect breastfeeding?

In most cases it does not interfere, provided the surgical approach preserves the glandular tissue and ducts. Dr. García Ceballos discusses this explicitly with patients for whom it is a relevant concern.
