01 — What Is Breast Reduction?

Relieve physical discomfort and restore balance

Breast reduction (reduction mammoplasty) reduces breast volume by removing glandular tissue, fat, and skin, while reshaping the breast and repositioning the nipple-areola complex. It is one of the breast surgeries with the highest satisfaction rates because it combines aesthetic benefits with functional relief.

Patients with significant breast hypertrophy often experience neck pain, back pain, skin irritation under the inframammary fold, shoulder marks from bra straps, and limitations in sports activities. Breast reduction improves all of these symptoms as well as the appearance.

Frequent nominees

Women with breast hypertrophy (disproportionately large breasts) that cause physical discomfort, make it difficult to participate in sports, create problems with dressing, or have a psychological impact. Also, patients with significant breast asymmetry who wish to balance the size of both breasts.

02 — Reduction Techniques

A technique for each area to be reduced

The approach is chosen based on the amount of tissue to be removed, the quality of the skin, and the degree of ptosis present.

Periareolar / Vertical Reduction

Recommended for moderate breast reduction. The scar runs around the areola and vertically toward the inframammary fold (in an "L" or "J" shape). The scar is less visible than with the inverted T incision.

Inverted-T Reducer

Recommended for extensive reductions or when there is a significant excess of skin. The scar is periareolar, vertical, and horizontal along the inframammary fold. This procedure allows for complete reshaping.

Areolar-Preserving Reduction

Whenever possible, the vascular and nerve pedicle of the areola-nipple complex is preserved to maintain sensitivity and the possibility of future breastfeeding.
